One Samoana’s first ever YouTube upload – Party in Mangere

So the uploading side of YouTube is completely new to me, but I was at Showtime Mangere 2014 last week with my secret phone camera and I captured this gem that I just had to share!

The Taimua Malaeola Youth choir is a real treat to watch. They filled the entire evening with music, even when they were just sitting in the audience. Their random musical outbursts bridged gaps between performances and even provided spontaneous backing vocals for the singers on stage. Can they please join me in the audience at every event I attend?

And then Ashley Tonga was there! Ashley got world famous in South Auckland when she auditioned for New Zealand’s X Factor with a hilarious rendition of Tina Turner’s Proud Mary. She’s since been a busy working bee who says she doesn’t have time to get a job or go back to university because people keep booking her for gigs. She’s beautiful in person, and her appeal is more than just lively stage antics. There’s a real intelligence and audacity in her sense of humor that is so… Mangere. Love it!

The big guy in orange? That would be Hermann. We’re kinda related… *smh*

Enjoy!

Known IRL as Lillian (Lils, Lei'a) Arp, I'm just a Hamo Geek Girl, sitting behind a screen... learning, deep-thinking and typing up Samoan things.
