Maivia started his own Wrestling Promotion(Polynesian Pro Wrestling) in Hawaii which became a hot spot for wrestling in the early days… he trained the likes of Afa the wild samoan, Superfly Tui, Farmer Boy Ipo and other greats that had left Hawaii to further there careers in either the NWA, AWA or WWF… some names that had their hey day under Maivia in Hawaii were Rick Martel, Don Muraco, The Missing Link, Rocky Johnson, even greats like Harley Race, Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Nick Bockwinkel, Bobby Heenan & Chief Jay Strongbow, Chief Billy White Wolf, Lord Tally Ho Blears, Curtis the Bull Iaukea & Ric Flair were familiar faces in PPW…
Peter Maivia is credited as the first Polynesian wrestler ever to step foot in the squared circle even though Neff Maiava and Al Lolotai also have matches predating Maivia’s debut Maivia is also credited as the ground breaker and standard setter for all who followed him as well as the founder of the Samoan family in this Sport…

Afa whos father took Peter Maivia as a brother, has not only had his own wrestling career become a tremendous sucess but as also found success as a trainer of the new school of professionals… His wrestling accomplishments include a 3 time reign as WWF tag team champions along with his brother Sika and many long well remembered fueds with the likes of Hogan, Andre, Rocky Johnson and many many more, Afa is one of the most well known men in the wrestling world and his training center has produced new stars like his Nephews Rikishi Fatu, Jamal, Mana, and his own sons, Afa Jr., Samu, and The Samoan Gangsta, as well as current Champion of the WWE Batista and fellow superstar Gene Snitsky… Afa is truly a success at all aspects of the business as a manager he brought his son and nephew to the WWF to capture the tag team gold as Samu and Fatu the Headshrinkers a savagly tough tag team that no one dare mess with, he is also responsible for the awesome Yokozuna a 500 lbs monster who was the first ever Samoan World heavy weight champion of the WWF he was an awesome worker who sadly past away…

18.Neff Maiava
Neff Maiava is the man who truly is responsible for the Samoan reputation in wrestling… Neff Maiava left Samoa at the age of two and began wrestling early in his life he easily became one of the biggest and most recognized stars of that era and was the innovator of what would later be known as the “Polynesian” Traits of wrestling, Maiava had wild hair that if you grabbed it he would twist and cut your fingers a move that would become one of his most singnature moves, Neff also created the image of Samoans Hard Heads that while although is true of Samoans was not widely known until a match between Neff and Bobo Brazil in Madison Square Garden, Maiava claims he dosent remember the details of the match but after both he and Brazil hit the match they bumped heads together and when he came to he was very dizzied and he remembers the ref telling him to cover the man. after the match the promoters approached Maiava to let him know that he had found his new nitch in the business and from then on Maiava used the Headbutt as part of his arsenal from then on, thus becoming the forerunner for all headbutts used by every wrestler on this list. Maiava also became NWA Hawaii champion during his career a feat which is most prestigious to any wrestler joining the likes of lord tally ho blears with whom he shared the Tag Team Title also of NWA Hawaii fame, Neff Maiava also influenced very much the career of Peter Maivia, Maivia being a play on the name Maiava which is an actual Samoan family name Maivia came into wrestling in Hawaii and took the name Maivia to be billed as the cousin of Neff Maiava and the foundations of the three original Samoans Maiava, Maivia & Lolotai set the stage for Afa & Sika, Reno Tuufuli & the Samoans as well as Jimmy Snuka, Superfly Tui, Siva Afi, the Kinipopos all the way down to the likes of Ativalu, Skulu, King Dabada and the rest of the Samoans in the Business today all thanks to our forerunners Maiava, Maivia and Lolotai. esepically to Maiava for being the father of what would become the invincible arsenal of what the Samoan Style of Professional wrestling is composed of including the headbutts, chops, thrusts and every other part of it. Neff Maiava was also known for walking on boards of nails and being raised to unbelieveable hieghts being held up only by his hair! since retiring from wrestling Neff Maiava Has become a childrens writer and a very successful as well as a family man he has a wife and children of his own now refers to himself as an old horse out in the pasture but the man in my eyes is a giant in the history of Professional Wrestling as a whole and the innovator who has changed the face of polynesians in wrestling and made us a distinctive people with our own unique strengths the likes of which have led us to the highest prizes in this business and has helped the Samoan people in so many ways… all thanks to this man Neff Maiava and his showing of toughness in the ring weve been able to take the careers of so many Samoans so far in this business fa’afetai tele lava lau susuga Neff Maiava.

4. Fatu “Rikishi”
Suafa: Kiuga Solofa Fatu
Nu’u i Samoa: Afono & Fagatogo
6′ 400 lbs
http://village.1samoana.com/profile/RIKISHI
Fatu started his career as part of the most feared team in wrestling history along with his cousin Samu he made up the Samoan Swat team a dangerous pair of Samoans with alot of skill and savage tendencies… he would go on with much success as Fatu capturing tag titles in many territories however it was when they were called up to the WWF that they got their world wide exposure and because they were big men with lots of skills that men their size shouldnt have they became a commodity thanks to the training of Afa and the great skills of Samu & Fatu. Fatu himself even received a World Title Shot against then Champion Bret Hart… they captured the Tag titles from the Quebecers in the 90’s and then defended against the likes of Crush and Yokoznua, IRS and Bam Bam Bigelow, after Samu decided to leave and tour on his own Fatu after a brief Team up with a tongan wrestler decided to go it on his own as a singles competitor which saw little success he was even tormented by his cousin and brother at one point in time into quitted and to return to the streets but eventually he decided to stay with wrestling after a long and hard road Fatu bulked up to a whoping 400 lbs and became known as Rikishi… having been a former Street Dancer and a good one Rikishi Joined forces with Too Cool, Brian Christopher and Scotty Too Hotty, they then became a super force in the WWF they ruled the tag division and Rikishi was the new big man to be reckoned with taking down the likes of viscera and even recieved a title shot against then champion Triple H the hard fought match is well remembered by fans… Rikishi was then implanted into the Stone Cold Storyline as the man who hit Austin with a limosuine his reasons, because Samoans were always held down by the writers and that he knew The Rock would become champ if Austin was out of the picture… then it happened that he became a headliner it was in a match against the Undertaker, Kurt Angle, Austin, Triple H and the Rock that Rikishi was thrown off the top of the steel cage to land into the back of a truck… one of the most memorable spots ever in the history of the WWE… Rikishi is still a big name in wrestling to this day he now wrestles in independent promotions as Rikishi and travels around the world… Currently Rikishi runs his own wresling promotion in Italy in which he heads as the commissioner or Commish Kishi he along with several other Samoan Talents have made the promotion very successful there.
