Thanks for the comment SamoaTafaoVale. Yeah our Samoan Head of State is an eloquent orator. It's a great institution, faalavelaves, but if used right.

Your story made me consider a speech given by Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Ta’isi Efi in his address which he dedicated it to the victims of the 2009 Tonga and Samoa Tsunami.
In that address he discussed the idea of "Family as a source of love" and discussion around "fa'alavelave". He talked about the tsunami has created the ideal context for reassessing faalavelave.

Really awesome story...loved it.

Thanks Bride to Be for the comment. Man I feel you! Being a Samoan is hard work for sure... but it's great being a Samoan too hahaha. I hope your wedding goes without a hitch. Much blessing on you and your fiance!

Just come across your post by also looking up samoan wedding invites lol. But omg i totally agree with your post. I am planning my wedding for next year with a raro husband to be and boyy it is alot to try and explain the samoan invite list & why i have to invite the whole church to our wedding even tho we don't actively attend lotu .. the only answer i can come up with is because i'm a samoan girl who was raised in a samoan church! lol .. so there goes 80+ people on top of the already big wedding list. We too are thinking of monetary gift with my parents who think it is a good idea but i'm too shy to put it on the invite as i don't want to have any guests (church people in particular) thinking that we are asking for money. Oh total dilema being samoan lol.
